Russia, Egypt foreign ministers call for active efforts to resolve Syria crisis

MOSCOW, June 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri discussed developments in Syria in a phone call on Tuesday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Lavrov and Shukri "exchanged views on developments in the Middle East with emphasis on the situation in and around Syria," the ministry said, adding that the two diplomats "highlighted the need to continue active political and diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis based on reaching a consensus about ways to settle internal political differences and with respect to that country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity". The diplomats also touched on "some practical issues related to future development of the Russian-Egyptian foreign policy cooperation," it said. The ministry said the call was initiated by Egypt.
