Russia, Indonesia discussing preparations for top-level meeting - foreign minister

MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Russia and Indonesia are discussing preparations for a meeting between both countries’ leaders, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday during the opening of an exhibition of archive documents timed to the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia. "Our relations continue their steady development today. I would like to note the regular and intensive political dialogue, namely at the top level. Presidents [of Russia Vladimir] and [of Indonesia Joko] Widodo met in Sochi in May 2016, in Singapore in November 2018, and they maintain regular contact through phone calls. We are now discussing new top-level meetings," Lavrov said. The Russian top diplomat added that regular cooperation channels exist between both countries’ ministries, diplomatic missions, parliaments, companies and corporations. Lavrov noted that in the past 70 years, the countries have been able to accumulate unique cooperation experience in various spheres. "We are proud that our country has made a significant contribution to the establishment of Indonesian statehood, to the development of Indonesia’s national economy, namely in the sphere of transport and industrial infrastructure. Russia has helped establish many enterprises and develop the new state’s military," Lavrov noted. "Of course, all of this together helped improve Jakarta’s global standing." Read more
