Russia interested in expanded cooperation with Mexico - Russian foreign minister

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Mexico is Russia’s second biggest partner in Latin America, with the two countries having all possibilities to further expand their partnership, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday at an exhibition dedicated to the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Russian minister noted that among the exhibits were "rare materials" from the archives of the Russian and Mexican foreign ministries. "Today’s exhibition is a vivid example of the high level of bilateral cooperation which is independent from current political impacts," Lavrov said. "Despite the geographical distance, our countries are linked by the ties of friendship, trust and mutual sympathy," he said. "We have always been striving towards better understanding of each other." "Today, Mexico is Russia’s second most important foreign policy partner in Latin America," the Russian top diplomat said. "Trade between our countries has increased by almost 3.5 times in the recent years and now comprises mostly high technology products, including exports of Russian Sukhoi Superjet-100 to Mexico. We are watching energy reforms in Mexico. We hope their successful implementation will create extra possibilities for further development of our cooperation." "There are political, economic and other prerequisites to keep on expanding our partnership," Lavrov stressed. "We are interested in it and feel the interest of our Mexican friends." Mexico’s Ambassador to Russia, Ruben Beltran, noted in his turn that the two countries "have been maintaining important contacts" over the entire history of their relations. "Our history has common parallels," he said. He noted the role of parliamentary contacts that had seen enlivening in the recent period.
