Russia: Iran’s Presidential Election, Exemplary Model For Successful Religious Democracy In World

Moscow, June 16, IRNA - Former Vice Speaker of the Russian State Duma Sergey Baburin said on Sunday that presidential election held in Iran should be regarded as an exemplary model for successful religious democracy in the world. Speaking to IRNA, he said Iran’s presidential election was in conformity with democratic principles in the world and the Iranian government successfully demonstrated its capability by holding such a significant event. Massive turnout of the Iranian people in the polling stations thwarted the plots of their enemies, he said. The US and the West did their best to indicate that Iran ignores peopleˈs role, but the vigilant Iranian people once again backed the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said. He expressed the hope that the next Iranian president would continue the countryˈs well-defined international and domestic policies, render more services to the Iranian people and resolve the country’s problems with success. Moscow expects ties between the two countries to further develop and the two countries would broaden their cooperation in various fields, he said. Moscow and Tehran are facing international challenges such as the wide-scale assault of western and Arab countries on Syria where thousands of civilians have lost their lives and many people have taken refuge in other countries, he said. To overcome such organized and complicated plot, it requires collective cooperation among Syriaˈs neighbors such as the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia and China. He expressed the hope that the new Iranian government would continue cooperation with Russia to help maintain security of the region and also help open a new horizon in broadening cooperation between the two countries. Russian officials welcome expansion of relations with Iran and it is expected that the Iranian government would adopt the same approach to its northern neighbor as its predecessors did, he said./end
