Russia, Iraq to conduct regular military cooperation talks at expert level - Peskov

MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. Russia and Iraq will maintain regular expert-level dialogue on military-technical cooperation, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday. He said this issue was discussed at a meeting of President Vladimir Putin with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Thursday. "They held a discussion on the subject of military-technical cooperation. The dialogue will continue at a regular expert level," said the Kremlin official. According to him, the meeting also focused on the expansion of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. "There is the potential for cooperation in this sphere," Peskov said. The presidential press secretary generally assessed the conversation as substantive. "The sides touched upon issues of economic cooperation, especially in the energy sector, the activity there [in Iraq] of Russian companies, which, despite all the difficulties, are ready to expand their presence [in Iraq]," the Kremlin spokesman said.
