Russia, Japan diplomats to talk politics in Tokyo

TOKYO, December 8. /TASS/. The Foreign Ministries of Russia and Japan plan to discuss putting dialogue between the two countries on a constructive track in current complicated international situation, visiting director of the third department of Asia at Russian Foreign Ministry Andrei Tatarinov told TASS on Monday. He will have talks with the director-general of Japanese Foreign Ministry’s European Affairs Bureau, Hajime Hayashi, at Japanese Foreign Ministry on Monday. “Negotiators will talk putting political dialogue on a constructive track,” Andrei Tatarinov said, noting “The agreement to hold these consultations was reached at a meeting of the leaders of the two countries in Beijing.” The top-level meeting was held at an Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation APEC summit in the Chinese capital in early November. Since March Tokyo has imposed a string of sanctions on Russia over the situation around Ukraine under the decisions taken by the Group of Seven highly developed countries. However, leaders of the two countries agreed to continue political talks at several telephone conversations and meetings. The two countries confirmed in Beijing that they are ready to continue contacts in all spheres, including over a peace treaty, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters then. Russian president’s visit to Japan was also discussed. “Next year [for a Russian presidential visit] was discussed,” Peskov said then. Read more
