Russia and Japan should step up foreign policy cooperation on key issues on the international agenda, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after the first round of Russian-Japanese talks on concluding a peace treaty within the framework of the format agreed by the leaders of the two countries in December. He believes that Russia and Japan should "qualitatively step up cooperation in foreign policy and the international scene." "We’ve inventoried our countries’ positions on the key issues of the global and regional agenda to state that in the United Nations we far from always, if not most often, disagree when it comes to the voting on Russian initiatives," Lavrov said.
