Russia, Laos to step up trading, economic, humanitarian cooperation - Lavrov

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Russia and Lavrov will be building up trading, economic and humanitarian cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Thonglun Sisulit. "We have held very good talks," he said. "Friendly ties between Russia and Laos rely on the principles of trust and have a long history." Lavrov recalled that October 7, 2015 will mark the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. "Our cooperation has stood the test of time, acquired all-round nature and achieved a level of strategic partnership," he said. "We discussed ways of stepping up the implementation of agreements that had been achieved in the course of the meetings of our heads of state in Beijing and the meetings between the heads of government over the past two years," Lavrov said. "We have agreed to step up trading and economic ties on the basis of decisions by the trading and economic commission and to strengthen humanitarian and cultural ties." Lavrov said that Russia and Laos shared ideas regarding the enhancement of the central role of the United Nations and the principles enshrined in the Charter of that organization. "We are grateful to Laos for supporting Russian initiatives at the United Nations," he said. Read more
