Russia, Latin American countries committed to develop cooperation - Russian foreign ministry

MOSCOW, December 29. /TASS/. Russia and Latin American countries are committed to further development of comprehensive cooperation, the Russian foreign ministry said in a report summit up the results of the outgoing year that was posted on its website on Tuesday. The ministry noted that cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean states was gaining momentum throughout 2015. "Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meetings with the leaders of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba and Peru, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s negotiations with the president of Colombia, Russian Foreign Minister’s talks with his counterparts from a number of countries of the region confirmed mutual commitment to further development of comprehensive cooperation both in bilateral and international formats," the ministry said. "Active delegation exchange is maintained at the level of ministries and agencies, inter-parliamentary contacts also developed dynamically." The ministry reminded that Russia had signed joint statements on the establishment of relations of comprehensive strategic partnership with Argentina and on strategic partnership with Peru. "In March, Russia filed an application to join the Central American Integration System (SICA) as an off-region observer. In September, a joint statement was passed on the establishment of a permanent mechanism of political dialogue and cooperation between Russia and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC)," the ministry said. "A draft memorandum on trade-and-economic cooperation between The Eurasian Economic Commission and governments of the member countries of Mercosur, or the Common Market of the South has been agreed."
