Russia for legally binding security guarantees in Euro-Atlantic space - Putin

DUSHANBE, September 15. /TASS/. Russia proposes achieving legally binding guarantees of security in the Euro-Atlantic space and establishing special provisions for resistance to attempts at government coups, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the Collective Security Treaty Organization’s summit meeting on Tuesday. "I am certain that it is necessary to resume a meaningful discussion on the theme of creating a system of equitable and indivisible security in the Euro-Atlantic space. It is necessary to carry out a thorough inventory of the accumulated problems and differences. On the basis of that analysis it would be possible to achieve a discussion of the principles of stable political development within the OSCE and other international organizations, to agree on legally binding guarantees of indivisible security for all countries, and to achieve the observance of the basic principles of international law, such as respect for the sovereignty of states and non-intervention in the internal affairs, and to bolster the rule of impermissibility of connivance with anti-government and anti-constitutional coups and the encouragement of radical extremist forces," Putin said. He underscored the idea cooperation by the CSTO member-states was certainly not aimed against any other parties. "We are open to constructive cooperation. This is precisely the kind of approach enshrined in the final statement that will be signed later in the day," Putin said. "We are determined to push ahead with strengthening cooperation by our armed forces. A series of measures is to be taken along these lines," he added. Read more
