Russia, Libya favor promoting inter-Libyan dialogue under UN auspices - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. Russia and Libya speak for enhancing international efforts under the auspices of the United Nations to promote the inter-Libyan dialogue, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following meeting in Moscow on Wednesday of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani. "The detailed conversation focused on the developments in Libya," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The Russian side emphasized the importance of overcoming the internal political crisis in this country at an early date. The ministry noted that the two sides drew attention to the pressing need for enhancing UN-sponsored international efforts to promote the inter-Libyan dialogue that should result in creating a national unity government. "The solution to this problem would allow to mobilize the necessary resources to effectively counter the growing terrorist threat," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. During the meeting, Lavrov pointed to Russia’s readiness to further support the legitimate Libyan leadership in strengthening state government bodies, ensuring stability and security in Libya. The two sides also discussed an array of practical issues relating to the current state and prospects of bilateral Russian-Libyan relations with due account of mutual interest in restoring comprehensive interaction in the traditional areas of cooperation, following the normalization of the situation in Libya, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.
