Russia to pool efforts with Egypt to work on draft UN Security Council resolution on Libya - Russian UN ambassador

UNITED NATIONS, February 17. /TASS/. Russia will poll efforts with Egypt to work on a draft resolution of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Libya, Russian Permanent Representative at the United Nations Vitaly Churkin told journalists on Tuesday after his meeting with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. Churkin said it had not yet been decided whether the draft would be based on Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter that allowed use of force. "We have not yet discussed details. Whether the resolutions will be based on Chapter VII or not. The minister put forth some key ideas reflecting the logic of the current situation and we agreed that we will work together on this draft resolution," the Russian diplomat said. He said he planned to meet with Libyan Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Dairi later on Tuesday. Earlier, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi urged the United Nations Security Council to pass a resolution to sanction an international operation against Islamists in Libya. Read more
