Russia is ready to implement trilateral projects with North and South Korea - Federation Council speaker

SEOUL, October 4. /TASS/. Russia is ready to implement massive trilateral projects with North and South Korea, in particular in the sphere of transport for massive economic integration, said Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko on Thursday in her speech before students from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul. Russia is going to apply efforts "to contribute to the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula, the nuclear disarmament process and the construction of a joint security structure with regard to the interests of all the Northeast Asian states," she said. "We are confident that the promotion of trilateral economic projects between the Russian Federation, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea would also help in the consolidation of peace," Matviyenko stressed. "These large trilateral projects could be implemented in the sphere of automobile and railroad transport, energy industry, electric energy supplies, logistics and many other spheres. We are ready for this work," she affirmed. The speaker reiterated that a package of trilateral projects had already been prepared. "It was discussed, and it is just necessary to create the conditions for it to be launched," she said. ""The integration of the Russian railroad system with that of the Korean Peninsula may spearhead massive economic integration," Matviyenko went on, specifying that Russia supports South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s idea about the creation of the East Asian Railroad Community. The speaker reiterated about the statements made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who noted that today sanctions impede to a certain degree the implementation of joint projects between North and South Korea, as well as trilateral projects. "Let’s first remove these restrictions and create conditions for the development of economic projects," the speaker concluded. Read more
