Russia, Saudi Arabia in touch on situation in Palestinian-Israeli relations - Russian foreign minister

SOCHI, October 11. /TASS/. Russia is in touch with its partners in the Middle East on the problem of deteriorating Palestinian-Israeli relations and urges to ease tensions and get back to the path of settlement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday after the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Defence Minister Muhammad Bin Salman Al Saud. "We are in close contact with our Saudi partners, as well as with other partners in the Middle East, on the problem which is aggravating in the Palestinian-Israeli relations," Lavrov said, adding that Moscow and its partners stood for using all the resources of the Middle East Quartet and the Arab League "to ease the situation and get back to the implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and other agreements on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement." Lavrov stressed that the Palestinian-Israeli settlement would be based upon the Arab peace initiative advanced by Saudi Arabia some time ago. He said this initiative was very topical today. "We agreed to stay in touch on this issue as well," Lavrov said. Saudi Foreign Minister Adil al-Jubayr, in turn, said the Saudi side at the talks had highly estimated the efforts Russian had been taking for decades to support the fair cause of the Palestinian people. "I would like to thank Russia for all it is doing to find a political solution and settle the Palestinian problem," he said. Read more
