Russia says supports Venezuela’s efforts to overcome difficulties facing the country

MOSCOW, May 25. /TASS/. Russia supports Venezuela’s policy aimed at overcoming differences in society by constitutional means and without outside interference, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday. "In connection with domestic political and socio-economic difficulties facing Venezuela, we express solidarity with the friendly people of the country and our strong support for the government's policy aimed at preventing destabilisation of the situation and organising nationwide dialogue to overcome differences existing in Venezuelan society by constitutional means and without destructive interference from the outside," a ministry statement said. In March, US President Barack Obama issued an executive order declaring Venezuela a "national security threat" and ordered sanctions against seven officials from the Latin American country. In response, Caracas called home its charge d'affaires in Washington for consultations. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro denounced the US sanctions as "the most aggressive, unjust and harmful step that has ever been taken by the US against Venezuela". Read more
