Russia supports efforts on restoring Palestinian national unity - foreign ministry

MOSCOW, August 3. /TASS/. Russia supports efforts on restoring Palestinian national unity on the basis of political platform of Palestine Liberation Organization and Arab Peace Initiative, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday. This position was confirmed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with Khaled Mashal, leader of the Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas, which took place in the framework of Lavrov’s visit to Qatar. "Prospects of Middle Eastern settlement were discussed, as well as situation on Palestinian territories, including in the Gaza Strip, and different aspects of the situation in the region," the foreign ministry said. "The Russian side confirmed supporting efforts on restoring Palestinian national unity on the basis of political platform of Palestine Liberation Organization and Arab Peace Initiative," the ministry added.
