Russia-US-UN meeting on Syria to be held July 26 - Gatilov

MOSCOW, July 25. /TASS/. The trilateral meeting in the format Russia-US-UN on Syria will be held in Geneva on Tuesday at the Palace of Nations, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Monday. "We have a constructive attitude for the work with our partners and hope that we’ll be able to advance as regards the intra-Syrian negotiations process," he said. "The meeting will be held tomorrow in the Palais (the Palace of Nations in Geneva)," he said. Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the high-level consultations in Geneva are being prepared. She recalled the Russian-US talks in Moscow that were held on July 14 and July 15. In talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry then the Russian side pointed to the need of active steps towards a buildup of coordination in the struggle with terrorism "on a universal basis free of any double standards". Zakharova said earlier this week that "We hope the American side will act on its promises to differentiate the moderate (Syrian) opposition from Jabhat al-Nousra," Zakharova said. "There’s no place for terrorists in a future Syria or in other countries of the region. They must be eliminated." "Russia will continue to facilitate precisely this pattern of developments in various formats," she said. "Proceeding from this position, we’re preparing for participation in a high-level trilateral meeting in Geneva next week."
