Russian ambassador to South Korea says intra-Korean issues should be solved peacefully

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. All the complex issues concerning intra-Korean relations should be solved by peaceful diplomatic means, Russian Ambassador to South Korea Alexander Timonin said in an interview with TASS. According to the diplomat, his stance is based on his vast experience gained while working not only in Seoul but also in Pyongyang, where he served as a Russian ambassador for two years. "I would like to note that before I was appointed Russia’s ambassador to the North Korea and after that to the South Korea, I had worked in our embassies in those two countries for 25 years. I had an opportunity to learn about each of the Korean states’ peculiarities," Timonin said. "Of course, my experience helps me understand and assess events taking place on the Korean Peninsula," the diplomat stressed. "It has led me to believe that all the complex intra-Korean issues can and should be solved by peaceful diplomatic means while avoiding the repetition of the 1950-1953 Korean War." Read more
