Russian Analyst: Iran-G5+1 Talks, Only Solution For Iran’s Nuclear Issue

Moscow, April 17, IRNA – Head of Military Forecasting Center Anatoly Tsyganok said here Monday Tehran- G5+1 Istanbul negotiations proved interactions are the only solution to Iran’s nuclear issue and such talks must continue. Speaking with IRNA Monday evening, Tsyganok reiterated, “In Istanbul negotiations, Iran while resisting and defending its interests and its legal rights, proved its good will for solving the entire misunderstandings and ambiguities related to Tehran’s nuclear program.” He added, “The Iranian officials have announced many times they demand nothing beyond the internationally approved rights regarding their nuclear program and fortunately, the western countries, too, along with Iran, are moving in the same direction today aiming for achieving agreement.” The Russian analyst said, “Such an approach on the part of the west has been unprecedented during the past few decades and in fact Iran has proved the point to the western countries that it is not going to yield to economic pressure, or even the threat of military force, to disregard its rights and back up despite its will.” Tsyganok said, “By recognition of Iran’s nuclear rights the G5+1 took a big and important step forward, and Tehran, too, accepted the commitment to move step by step with that group and the IAEA till full problem solution.” The Russian MFC head reiterated, “Formerly the G5+1 western negotiators used to talk with Iran from a superior’s stand and they always began the talks in a way that it seemed from very scratch that they had in advance made all their decisions and were only waiting for Iran to put its signature at the bottom of their pre-fabricated texts.” The Head of the Russia Military Forecasting Center added, “Naturally, such an approach was rejected by Tehran as unacceptable and the Iranian officials had many times shown their defiance against that type of western approach.” Pointing out that Iran enjoys a unique status in the region and its increased capabilities, too, have provided a good ground for Tehran’s role playing at the international scene, Tsyganok reiterated, “The G5+1 and particularly its western members must evaluate the situation realistically and refrain from adopting any type of approach with a hegemonic gesture.” The Russian analyst expressed hope that during the upcoming second round of talks in Baghdad, too, Iran and the G5+1 would resort to the same positive approach and manage to achieve tangible agreements. In related news, Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said in Tehran Monday that Islamic Republic of Iran and the Group 5+1 have reached a common understanding in Istanbul. Salehi made the remark in an interview with the international television channel, Jaam-e Jam. He noted that the West has come to realize that IR of Iran will continue its activities irrespective of the extent of pressures exerted on that country. “We are trying to wrap up this false dossier which has been plotted for the Islamic Republic of Iran. This would benefit both Iran and the West,” the minister added. He pointed out that Iran is seriously against the proliferation of nuclear weapons throughout the world. Referring to the fact that Iran will not engage in diplomatic dialogue with the US, Salehi noted that any decision concerning holding talks with the US lied within the authorities of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. “It is the leader who determines what Iran should do in that respect,” he added./end
