Russian, Congolese foreign ministers to discuss prospects in energy sector

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, meet in Moscow later on Tuesday to discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, the implementation of bilateral projects in other sectors, and the settling of various crises in Africa. Construction of an oil product pipeline Pointe Noire - Oyo - Ouesso is one of the joint projects in the energy sector. "There are fair prospects in the sectors like power engineering, production of crude oil, supplies of Russian equipment, geological surveying, and agriculture," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on the forthcoming talks. "The training of Congolese nationals at Russian universities is also an important area for cooperation between the two countries," it said. Lavrov and Gakosso will also look into struggle with terrorism and the untangling of crises in Africa. "They are expected to have a detailed exchange of opinion on the major problems of the global and regional agendas, with an accent on counteraction to terrorism and extremism and resolution of critical situations in various hotbeds of tensions in Africa, and particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Libya, and in the Middle East," the Foreign Ministry said. Russian officials hope Gakosso’s visit to Russia will help map out the promising areas for joint actions and promote mutually beneficial partnership in various areas, it said, adding that Russia and the Republic of Congo have identical or consonant approaches to many problems of our times and especially in what concerns the central role of the UN in international politics.
