Russian envoy, Fatah delegation discuss Palestinian-Israeli settlement

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. The Russian President’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, held a meeting on Monday with a delegation of Fatah Palestinian movement that included the executive secretary of the Central Committee, Jibril Rajoub, and a member of the Central Committee, Hussein al-Sheikh, who are making a working trip to Moscow. "In the course of the conversation, the sides had a detailed exchange of opinions regarding Palestinian-Israeli settlement and the situation on the Palestinian territories with accent on the task of overcoming the internal Palestinian split and the encouraging shifts that have taken place in that sphere recently," the foreign ministry said. "Fatah representatives thanked Russia for its persistent efforts to facilitate the restoration of Palestinian national unity as a prerequisite for the implementation of the Palestinians’ legitimate aspirations," the report said. The Russian side reaffirmed its principled line in favor of fulfilling all the inter-Palestinian agreements for the purpose of reaching genuine unity on the PLO political platform and a considerable improvement of the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip. "Advance towards these goals is called upon to help take the Middle East peace process out of the current impasse and launch constructive Palestinian-Israeli talks on the well-known foundations of international law," the report said.
