Russian envoy visits Qatar to hold talks on pandemic efforts, Syria, Libya

MOSCOW, June 25. /TASS/. Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov focused on crises in Syria, Libya, Yemen and on the Persian Gulf, and touched upon bilateral issues, including joint pandemic efforts, at his talks with the Qatari leadership in Doha, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. On June 23, during his working visit, Bogdanov, who is also a deputy foreign minister, held talks with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Finance Minister Ali Sharif Al Emadi. On June 24, he was received by Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah and then held talks with Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi. "[They] held a detailed exchange of views on the Middle East and North Africa, with an emphasis on the objectives of achieving political solutions to the conflicts in Syria, Libya and Yemen, as well as breaking the current impasse in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement on the basis of universally recognized international legislation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The ministry added that at the meetings and talks the parties also touched upon "the prospects for sustainable stabilization of the situation in the Persian Gulf promoting a constructive, unifying agenda in the world’s strategically important area, forming collective mechanisms of response to existing challenges and threats with the participation of all concerned states."
