Russian expert says relations between Moscow, Delhi affect entire range of global issues

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Bilateral relations between Russia and India affect the entire range of global issues, director of the Russian Strategy for Asia Center of the Institute of Economics at Russia’s Academy of Sciences Georgy Toloraya said on Thursday. "Relations between Russia and India are not confined to bilateral ties as these two great powers inevitably affect the entire range of the global issues that they are involved in," said Toloraya who heads the National BRICS Research Committee. "In the past few years, our interaction has been expanding. It covers issues on the global and regional agenda, new formats of interaction have been emerging. Russia and India have been interacting in many multilateral organizations and their responsibilities as great powers have been increasing each year while their dialogue on various issues has been becoming more precise." Member of the Board of Directors of the Russian Institute of World Economy and International Relations at the national Academy of Sciences, former Russian Ambassador to India Vyacheslav Trubnikov also said that Russian-Indian cooperation affected the global agenda. "Mutual understanding between large countries such as Russia and India can change many things in the world, but the countries need not only to participate in various processes but also play a decisive role in some spheres," he pointed out. "Russia and India have similar balanced positions on major issues concerning the current world order as well as its future. It is in that spirit that (Russian-Indian) dialogue has been developing." Trubnikov also stressed that relations between Moscow and Delhi were stable. "Great global changes have not affected bilateral ties," he noted. "Domestic processes in Russia and India also did not change the essence of bilateral relations, as there is consensus on this in both countries." "This consensus allows the two countries discuss complicated issues and new developments that have not yet been tackled on the official level, on the other hand, official decisions are based on public consensus," the expert elaborated. "This is the thing about Russian-Indian privileged strategic partnership." On April 13, Russia and India will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, on this occasion, various events will take place in both countries. Read more
