Russian, Indian, Chinese foreign ministers to meet in China in early February - source

NEW DELHI, January 15. /TASS/. Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj will visit China in early February where he plans to meet Russian and Chinese Foreign Ministers - Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi, a source close to the Indian Foreign Ministry told TASS on Thursday. According to him, Swaraj plans to fly to Beijing on January 31 and hold a number of bilateral meetings with Chinese leadership. “On February 2, she is to attend a trilateral Russia - India - China foreign ministers’ meeting and hold bilateral talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov,” the source added. Swaraj’s trip will be the first Indian ministerial visit to China since a new Indian government came to power in May 2014 as a result of general parliamentary elections. Last September, Chinese President Xi Jinping already visited New Delhi. The sides agreed then to “settle the border disputes” that are one of the main complicated issues in the bilateral relations, “within the shortest time possible.” China and India are in close communication and consultations on border problems. In 2013, the countries signed an agreement on military co-operation on the border aimed at defusing tension on the Line of Actual Control (a demarcation line between India and China that is de factor a border). The document provides for regular contacts at the level of military operations commanders of the two countries’ armed forces, as well as for measures to prevent invasion of the territories of each other. The Line of Actual Control stretches for more than 4,000 kilometres. In 1996, the two countries signed an agreement under which “neither state shall take action to revise it.” Read more
