Russian-Indian cooperation promotes international security, forms polycentric world - Duma speaker

NEW DEHLI, February 26. /TASS/. Russian-Indian cooperation promotes global security, social progress and economic development, and forms polycentric world, State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said during Thursday 's meeting with his Indian counterpart Sumitra Mahajan. "Russia and India are linked with friendly and warm relations, mutual sympathy and high level of trust. Russian-Indian relations rest on similar approaches to global problems and common geopolitical interests, and spiritual liaison of the two great cultures," Naryshkin said. Over the year, joint efforts allowed the two countries to achieve significant results, reach progress in various spheres and rose to the level of "truly comprehensive strategic partnership," Russia's speaker said. "Russian President Vladimir Putin’s December visit to India was a breakthrough, results of which gave a powerful impetus to the stepping up bilateral cooperation, including inter-parliamentary contacts," Naryshkin said. In the past decades the contacts between lawmakers of the two countries had lagged behind overall cooperation, he said, adding that the objective for the recent meeting was "to improve the situation, in particular by means of an inter-parliamentary commission".
