Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission may meeting in Astrakhan this fall

UFA, July 8. /TASS/. Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission may hold its next session this autumn in the southern Russian city of Astrakhan, the Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday. "Various dates are being considered and Prime Minister Modi himself spoke about Astrakhan," Peskov said. "(Indian Prime Minister Narendra) Modi mentioned Astrakhan but if we schedule the event for the winter, the weather there may be rather harsh, so the conference may take place somewhat earlier - maybe sometime in the autumn." Modi said at the talks with Putin on Wednesday that another Russian-Indian summit meeting was scheduled for a later period of the year and he suggested that Astrakhan might be chosen as its venue. He said the Russian side had a good tradition of organizing the summits in different cities and that is why Astrakhan would be an interesting option. Russia and India started annual exchanges of visits more than ten years ago. The Russian President and the Indian Prime Minister come to the other country for major negotiations on the alternately. This year, it is the turn of the Indian delegation to visit Russia. Read more
