Russian, Japanese diplomats may hold talks on peace treaty in February - source

MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. The next round of consultations between Russian and Japanese deputy foreign ministers is scheduled for this February, a source at the Russian Foreign Ministry told TASS on Monday. "The forthcoming meeting is planned and may take place in February in the framework of the Russian-Japanese consultations on a peace treaty," the source said. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to speed up work on a peace treaty in April 2013. The first round of talks was held in Tokyo in January 2014. Since then, new consultations were repeatedly postponed. Moscow said the pause was not coming from the Russian side. The second round of the consultations between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and his Japanese counterpart Shinsuke Sugiyama took place last October in Moscow. Read more
