Russian, Syrian diplomats discuss preparations for Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. The current situation in Syria and preparations for a Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Russia’s Sochi was in focus of a meeting between Russian president’s special envoy for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Syrian Ambassador to Russian Riyad Haddad, the Russian foreign ministry said on Monday. "The two diplomats discussed the development of the situation in and around Syria with a focus on issues of political settlement of the Syrian crisis," the ministry said. "Special attention was paid to the preparations for the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi." The meeting was initiated by the Syrian side. The Syrian National Dialogue Congress is scheduled to be held in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 29-30. Along with the Syrian sides, it is expected to be attended by observers, including from the United Nations. The Congress’ key task is to set up a commission on working out Syria’s new constitution.
