Russian, Uzbek presidents discuss interaction in war on terror, military cooperation

TASHKENT, October 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed coordination in combating terrorism and military cooperation at the talks on Friday, Mirziyoyev told reporters after the negotiations. "We exchanged views in detail on coordinating joint efforts to counter terrorism, extremism, especially the radicalization among young people," Mirziyoyev said. "We also discussed comprehensively cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres." The Russian leader arrived in Tashkent on October 19 to hold negotiations with Uzbekistan’s president. Putin last paid a visit to Uzbekistan in June 2016. He also came there later that year to pay homage to that country’s first President Islam Karimov who passed away on September 2, 2016. Mirziyoyev paid a state visit to Russia in April 2017. The two leaders have met six times since September 2016, the previous meeting took place during the CIS summit in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, last September. Read more
