Russia's relations with Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela in good shape - Lavrov

MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Russia’s relations with Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela are in very good shape, and their prospects are also promising, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the Federation Council session on Wednesday. "The relations with all three countries are in very good shape," Lavrov said, adding that their prospects are also promising. Russian officials pay regular visits to the three countries - at the level of leaders, ministries, agencies, the foreign minister reminded. "These relations are in fact all-encompassing - they deal with economic ties, military and technical cooperation, security, humanitarian sphere, educational contacts," Lavrov said. "Many economic projects are now under consideration with an aim to get a practical result in Cuba," the minister said. "Free trade zones are set up there, along with special economic zones, modal transport hubs. Our companies are closely watching the situation," he added. "In Nicaragua, contacts are increasingly moving from providing aid to mutually beneficial cooperation at the initiative of our Nicaraguan colleagues," Lavrov said. Russia also has many investment and trade projects with Venezuela, as well as military projects. "All this strengthens stability in the regions, broadens factors of our foreign policy," Lavrov said. "The three countries actively support us on international arena, and we appreciate it," he said. "So, I am rather optimistic about the prospects of our cooperation," he added. Read more
