S. Korea to seek G-20's backing for Korea peace process

SEOUL, May 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea said Thursday it will try to muster support from the other Group of 20 member states for a nuclear-free Korea and regional peace. Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun plans to attend the Meeting of G-20 Foreign Affairs Ministers to be held in Buenos Aires next week on behalf of Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, according his ministry. He will brief participants on the results of the April 27 inter-Korean summit talks and request the G-20's support for efforts to denuclearize the peninsula and establish a peace regime through success in the Singapore meeting between the leaders of North Korea and the United States on June 12, the ministry added. Cho also plans to hold bilateral talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan on the sidelines of the event, a preparation session for the G-20 summit to take place in Argentina at the end of this year. lcd@yna.co.kr (END)
