Salehi Appreciates S. Arabia For Suspension Of Iranian Nationals’ Death Sentences

Tehran, April 19, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi here on Wednesday expressed pleasure with the suspension of death sentences on some Iranian nations by the Saudi Arabia, as announced by his Saudi counterpart. Talking to reporters after the end of a Cabinet session, he added that in a telephone conversation with Saud a-Faysal, he called on the Saudi government to give a second thought to the issue, which is a wise move. The Iranian nationals were imprisoned in the Arab state on charges of drug smuggling, he said, noting that some news indicated that some of them will be executed. Salehi appreciated his counterpart for his efforts to suspend the death sentences. One day after the telephone talk, Al-Faysal declared that the decree the death penalties had been suspended, Salehi said./end
