Salehi: Iran Believes In Territorial Integrity, Nat'l Sovereignty Of Syria

Amman, May 8, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes in territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Syria, calling on Syrian opposition to attend a joint meeting with Syrian government to prepare ground for a transitional government. Salehi made the remarks in joint press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judah in Amman. Syrian crisis should be resolved through peaceful means with reliance upon the Syrian nation, he said. He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is opposed to intervention of foreign forces in Syria and calls for the crisis to be resolved inside the country. Syria is now suffering from a dire situation and its consequences put pressure on the shoulders of our friends mainly Jordan, he said. Salehi said that Iran is ready to back Jordan with financial support to help afford the hefty cost of the Syrian war refugees who sheltered in Jordan. On the Zionist regimeˈs air raid on Syria, he said it is incumbent upon the countries in the region to deal with the aggression. Syrian opposition groups blamed Iran for backing Syrian government, the question was posed by one reporter and Salehi said Iran has always underlined that it will back Syrian government and nation and it is about two years that entered into negotiations with the opposition groups to invite them to resolve the issue through peaceful means and logic. Iran first started negotiation with rational opposition groups and then entered into negotiations with al-Nusra front who dug out the graves of Muslims. Terrorists have destroyed all infrastructures in Syria but blame Iran for it, he said adding ˈWe put the blame on them for flow of terrorists into Syria as we are now witnessing.ˈ/end
