Salehi Thanks Italy For Its Stance On Iranˈs Presidential Election

Tehran, June 19, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart, Emma Bonino, appreciated Italian governmentˈs stance about Iranˈs presidential election. During the conversation, Salehi exchanged views on bilateral ties and prospects of Tehran-Rome economic cooperation. He voiced Iranˈs readiness to further promote cooperation with Italy and said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is keen on consultations with Italy on regional developments, especially the Syrian crisis. Bonino, for her part, recalled Iranˈs role in the Middle East and stressed the need to continue with consultations with Iran through diplomatic channels. Italian President Giorgio Napolitano in a message on Monday congratulated president-elect, Hassan Rohani on his victory in presidential election, calling for further promoting Tehran-Rome ties./end
