Salehi: UK Must Behave Rationally, Based On Political Logic

Tehran, Nov 29, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Monday expressed hope the British government would behave rationally and based on political logic in its relations with other countries. In an interview with IRNA, he described Majlis new ratification to lower ties with UK to a charge d’affaires level as good lesson for the London government. “Foreign ministries are responsible for strengthening and expanding ties with other countries but unfortunately some governments such as that of Britain are doing their job irrationally and illogically,” Salehi said. He added that such countries believe they can do whatever they wish at any time against other countries without expecting any reaction from them. The foreign minister said 'If the UK revises its behavior and intention towards Iran we will revise ours too, based on the Majlis law which also stipulates that Iran-UK relations could be normalized if Britain corrects its attitudes.' Salehi said that Iran's diplomacy is in harmony with Majlis ratifications and therefore the bill to lower ties with Britain will be implemented once the Foreign Ministry officially receives it. Majlis yesterday ratified a bill which has requested the Foreign Ministry to downgrade the level of diplomatic ties with the UK./end
