Salehi Urges NAM To Focus On Restoration Of Peace In Syria

Tehran, Aug 28, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement should focus on restoration of peace and tranquility in Syria. He made the remark in a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Adnan Mansour. During the meeting, Salehi dwelt on the issue of Syria and said countries taking part in the consultative meeting in Tehran stressed on stopping violence, negated foreign interventions, underlined need for humanitarian assistance to Syria and highlighted the importance of solving the problem through dialogue. He expressed hope that the NAM member states should seriously concentrate on restoring peace and tranquility in Syria. The Lebanese foreign minister stressed that there is no military solution to the Syrian problem, dismissed any foreign intervention and highlighted the responsibility of the Non-Aligned Movement in solving the problem. Both foreign ministers reviewed bilateral issues as well as the latest regional and international developments. The Lebanese foreign minister is here to attend the foreign ministerial meeting of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit which opened here Tuesday morning./end
