SCO confirms need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2254 - Lavrov

ASTANA, April 21. /TASS/. Participants in the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers Council have confirmed the need to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 to resolve the Syrian conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday. "As for global issues, (the meeting’s participants) discussed the Syrian crisis. It leaves no one indifferent because there is a huge geopolitical struggle going on around it, particularly in relation to the recent groundless accusations against the Syrian government of using chemical weapons, while our western counterparts have refused to send experts to the scene so that they could see what happened with their own eyes and collect samples," Lavrov noted. The Russian foreign minister added that during the meeting, he briefed the SCO Foreign Ministers Council on the discussions on Syria held with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during his April 12 visit to Moscow, as well as with the Iranian and Syrian top diplomats on April 14. "All parties confirmed the need to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 on finding a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis based on dialogue involving all Syrians who will have to decide their country’s future," the Russian top diplomat said.
