SCO to fight attempts to rewrite WWII history, leaders say

UFA, July 10. /TASS/. Leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) have called to "decisively" counter attempts to rewrite the history of the World War II. In a statement amid the 70th anniversary of Victory over fascism in the World War II, the leaders of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan said they are committed to do utmost to "prevent the rise of new deadly and inhuman ideas." "We call to decisively counter the attempts of giving distorted moral and legal evaluation of its results and burying in oblivion the lessons of that tragedy of humanity," the document reads. "The pride for the great exploit, the memory about the joint fight and unbreakable friendship, which became our common heritage in asserting freedom and independence, are a moral guide in the struggle for the fair and secure world," the leaders said. The leaders have also called for "active cooperation in increasing the authority and the role of the United Nations and forming a fair democratic international order and establishing security and stability in the world." The sides stressed the need to "boost efforts in the fight against challenges and threats and political settlement of the existing conflicts and preventing possible new ones." The document especially notes the role of China. "We highly appreciate the bravery and merits of the Chinese people who struggled heroically in the war of Resistance against the Japanese militarism and who suffered colossal losses for the sake of Victory in the World War II," the leaders said.
