SCO premiers to discuss closer cooperation in key spheres on Dec 14-15

BEIJING, December 7. /TASS/. Prime ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member-states will meet on December 14-15 to discuss cooperation in the spheres of economy and transport, and humanitarian exchanges, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Monday. "The main topic of the conference will be the current status of, as well as prospects and measures for the buildup trade, economic, investment, financial and humanitarian interaction in the SCO framework," Hua said. "As the hosting country, China hopes to discuss thoroughly with the SCO member states new ideas and proposals pertaining closer and comprehensive interaction in the format of the organisation," she said, stressing that all the points would be considered in the context of the Silk Road economic projects and other initiatives in the regional cooperation sphere. According to Hua, Beijing expects "working out measures and plans of the most prioritized spheres and topical questions of the cooperation in the region," which will facilitate "strengthening stability of all the SCO member states." The SCO Heads of Government Council conference will take place in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province in east-central China. According to the earlier TASS reports, the heads of governments will pay special attention to the status of and prospects for the development of multifaceted cooperation among the organisation member states in the context of the ongoing processes in the global politics and economy. They plan to review implementation of the programme of multilateral trade and economic cooperation of the SCO states and the list of measures for the further development of project activities within the SCO framework for the period of 2012-2016. The heads of government are expected to adopt a joint communique and a statement on the regional economic interaction, as well as decisions on a number of SCO activities, including the approval of the SCO budget for 2016.
