SEMINAR RUNS ON DEMOCRACY EDUCATION

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Permanent Mission of Mongolia to UN hosted a seminar "Mainstreaming Education for Democracy" at the UN Headquarters on Monday. The event, co-hosted by UN Institute for Training and Research and UN Democracy Fund, provided a background on the work that has been done to implement the UN resolution on education for democracy. The seminar also reviewed accomplishments and further recommendations of UN member states on this issue. Addressing the event, the Permanent Representative of Mongolia to UN O.Och highlighted that the Government of Mongolia has been paying a particular attention to the mainstreaming education for democracy and been focusing on the importance of the UN Resolution on Education for Democracy that was initiated by Mongolia. He also appealed all member states to strengthen their efforts for the implementation of the document and for inclusion of the democracy education in school curriculum. Among those speaking at the event was Council for a Community of Democracies (CCD) president Robert LaGamma, United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) Executive Head Roland Rich, UNESCO representative Mike Jensen, and International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) representative Massimo Tommasoli.
