Senior Cleric Commemorates Sacred Defense Week

Tehran, Sept 21, IRNA – Tehran’s Substitute Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati praised the memory of 8 years of defensive war against the regime of Saddam Hussain in Iraq and said there are many lessons to learn in those years for the youth. Ayatollah Jannati made the remarks in the second sermon of Tehran Friday Prayers. September 22 marks the 33th anniversary of Saddam's army attack against Iran. He added that the morale of sacrifice and devotion emerged in that period and war fronts were full of young people who were fighting whole-hardheartedly. The ayatollah also praised Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) resistance and devotion, who fought upon their beliefs and piousness. Expressing regret over the current problems in Syria, the ayatollah said that the country is facing with many problems, and that Al-Qaeda presence there has effects in current crisis. Jannati concluded that Syrian crisis should be settled through political talks./end
