Senior cleric urges unity among Muslims

Tehran, Dec 14, IRNA – Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, member of Iran's Assembly of Experts urged unity among Muslims. Speaking in a local ceremony in Kish Island on Saturday, he praised peaceful co-existence of followers of various sects of Islam. Followers of different Islamic sects should be vigilant towards enemies' divisive plots, Khatami underlined. He noted that enemies' conspiracies' against Islamic states are doomed to failure, adding that those who provoke discord among Muslims are agents of enemies. He underscored that Islamic States of Iraq and the Levant elements have been created and supported by the US and UK. The West's pressures and sanctions can not affect the Iranian nation's desire for having peaceful nuclear energy, Khatami asserted./end
