Senior Russian diplomat, North Korean foreign minister discuss Korean Peninsula situation

MOSCOW, July 20. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov has held consultations at the North Korean Foreign Ministry while on a visit to Pyongyang, particularly discussing ways to find diplomatic solutions to the Korean Peninsula issues with North Korean top diplomat Ri Yong-ho, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday. "Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov held consultations with his North Korean counterparts Choe Son-hui and Sin Hong-chol in Pyongyang on July 19," the statement reads. "On the same day, there was a meeting between Morgulov and North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho," the ministry added. "The parties welcomed the ongoing development of ties between Russia and North Korea, particularly in connection with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations marked this year," the statement says. "There was a thorough discussion of the current state of cooperation and prospects for boosting it, including the implementation of trilateral projects involving South Korea," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted. "The diplomats also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, confirming their determination to resolve the issues the region is facing by political and diplomatic means, through dialogue between all the parties concerned," the ministry said.
