Shamkhani: Contributing To Iraqi Security, Stability, Iran’s Basic Policy

Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA – Contributing to the establishment of stability and security in Iraq and transfer of experience in anti-terrorism campaign is Iran’s basic approach, said Supreme Leader’s representative and secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) here Tuesday. Ali Shamkhani made the comment in his Tuesday evening meeting with the visiting Iraqi prime minister after referring to the two countries’ cultural, political, economic, and security commonalities. “Continuous close cooperation between the two countries aimed at boosting both countries’ strategic capabilities and the two nations’ interests is both vital and the need for it is felt more than ever before today,” he added. The SNSC Secretary said that restless campaign against Takfiri terrorists and their supporters is the topmost priority in Iran-Iraq cooperation today. Iraq’s Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, too, said for his part that the Iraqi government and nation will never forget Iran’s effective cooperation and contributions in campaign against terrorism in Iraq. “The terrorism threat is aimed at the entire regional countries and I hope under the umbrella of broader regional cooperation and after eliminating the terrorism’s threat, we will be able to open new horizons in shared economic, cultural, and political relations,” he added. “My country is today engaged in a full scale, comprehensive war against terrorism and is determined to uproot the sedition of terrorism in Iraq relying on Jihadi endeavors of the brave and gallant Iraqi combatants,” said Prime Minister Al Ibadi./end
