Sharjah Ruler receives Prince Charles

SHARJAH, 9th November, 2016 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received this evening at Al Badea Al Amer Palace, HRH Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales. H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah were present at the meeting. The Ruler of Sharjah welcomed Prince Charles and exchanged cordial talks with him about the close ties that bind the two countries. They also recalled a number of historical memories that reflect the depth of the ties that bind the two countries. Among others present were Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Central Department of Finance, Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Customs and Seaports Department, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Corporation and Sharjah Media Centre, Sheikh Khalid bin Essam Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Department, and Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Head of the Sharjah Ruler's office. The meeting was also attended by Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, Khawla Al Mulla, Chairwoman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, SCC and a number of heads of government departments and members of the SCC. HRH Prince Charles was later accompanied by the Sharjah Ruler on a tour of University City, where he was briefed on the academic and cultural institutions sited there. They also visited the Sharjah-based ICCROM-ATHAR, Architectural and Archaeological Tangible Heritage in the Arab Region. HRH Prince Charles was briefed on the work being undertaken within the UAE and the broader region on the protection and conservation of cultural heritage. ICCROM-Athar is a partnership between the international organisation, ICCROM, the International Centre for the Study of the preservation and restoration of Cultural Property, and the Government of Sharjah, and operates under the patronage of the Sharjah Ruler, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi The Rome-based inter-governmental organisation, which is also an affiliate of the United Nations, it is the only institution of its kind with a worldwide mandate to promote the conservation of all types of cultural heritage. It describes itself as a regional conservation centre, focussing on architectural and archaeological tangible heritage in the region. This includes heritage collections, rich and varied historic places, sites and monuments. Its primary objective is to enhance the capacity of official heritage institutions to manage sites and museum collections on a sustainable basis. Before leaving, HRH Prince Charles was briefed at the Sharjah Institute of Heritage on the work of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, a subsidiary of the Sharjah-based NAMA Foundation, where he met a group of Emirati women and learned about the Emirati craft industry. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates-international/1395302828385.html
