Sheikh Attar Slams West's Support Of Terror Groups In Syria

Berlin, Mar 30, IRNA -- Iranian Ambassador to Germany Ali Reza Sheikh Attar lashed out at western countries and some of its Middle Eastern allies for backing terror groups in Syria. Speaking at a two-day international conference on Syria in Munich, Sheikh Attar said the West had not learned from its past strategic miscalculations in Afghanistan and are now repeating the same mistakes in Syria by supporting terror organizations like Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra Front. He warned many of the terrorists who have come from European countries to fight in Syria, could return to their countries after the end of the Syrian war and launch major terror attacks in Europe, unless the West and its Mideastern allies become finally determined to seriously tackle terrorism and extremism in the Middle East. Sheikh Attar said the West lacked a correct understanding of the region and was actually instrumentalizing the Syrian crisis to serve its own objectives in the Middle East.
