Sheikh Nimr execution would be ‘costly’ for Saudi Arabia

TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) – Deputy-FM for Arab and African affairs has said ‘provocative acts’ by Saudi Arabia against its own people will be detrimental to the establishment itself. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted by Iran’s state TV as saying that the execution of Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr, a Shia cleric and religious leader, would have heavy price for the Saudis. He was stating Iran’s official position against the stories on the media alleging that the Supreme Court of the Saudi Arabia had confirmed the death sentence by the primary court trying Sheikh Nimr. “Saudi authorities have yet provided no plausible response to demands for a thorough investigation into the Mina incident which killed thousands of Sunni and Shia Hajj pilgrims; this along with Saudi unsuccessful strikes against Yemen clearly demonstrates a crisis in the files and ranks of the Saudi regime inside; ethnically-motivated provocations against its own people by Saudi Arabia would just confound the crisis,” Amir-Abdollahian emphasized. “I recommend to Saudi officials to wisely abandon their adventurist approach in the region and come to the path of fairness and justice toward their own citizens,” he added.
