S.Leader: 16th NAM Summit To Give New Life To Movement

Tehran, Aug 30, IRNA – The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is held to give a new life to the movement. Addressing the summit's opening ceremony, the Ayatollah said, "We have gathered here today to give a new life to the Non-Aligned Movement." The 16th NAM Summit started in the Iranian capital in the presence of the Supreme Leader as well as other senior Iranian officials including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Head of Experts Assembly Ahmad Janati, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, Judiciary Chief Sadeq Amoli Larijani and a number of other senior offcials of the country. Secretary-General of the United Nation Ban Ki-moon, President of Egypt Mohamed Mursi, Special Envoy of the Saudi King Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al-Saud, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, President of Pakistan Yusuf Ali Zardari and Lebanese President Michel Sulaiman are also participating in the Summit. Prime Minister of Syria Wael Nader al-Halqi and the country's Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem are also attending the meeting. The rotating presidency of NAM is to be handed over to Iran by President Mursi of Egypt who is to address the summit later./end
