Some French senators to appeal Constitutional Court as objecting bill on Armenian allegations

PARIS (A.A) - January 23, 2012 - Some French senators and parliamentarians, who are objecting the bill on Armenian allegations, will appeal to Constitutional Court. French senator Nathalie Goulet told AA on Monday that the bill, which would be voted at French Senate today, would probably be accepted, however, some senators and parliamentarians were objecting the bill, and they would apply to Constitutional Court. French Senate is set to discuss on Monday the bill which penalizes denial of the Armenian allegations with a prison term of one year and a fine of 45,000 euro.  The Senate could vote to uphold an earlier parliamentary committee decision and drop the bill off the agenda without even debating it. Goulet said that parliaments should not make decisions about historical incidents, adding, "this is not our business." Goulet said that several parliamentarians and senators were not positive about the bill as it was against French Constitution. We are getting prepared to collect signatures from at least 60 senators and parliamentarians and then to apply to court to cancel the bill, added Goulet.
