Spain Urges Iran To Help Restore Stability To Mideast

Tehran, July 16, IRNA – Chairman of Foreign Policy Committee of the Spanish Parliament Duran Lleida here on Tuesday called on Iran to assist European countries to restore stability and security to the Middle East region. He made the remarks in a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian. Pointing to Iranˈs extensive potentials; he noted that the region was in a very sensitive situation. All should join efforts to help restore security and stability to the region, he added. He further voiced deep concern over the growing extremist and terrorist approaches both in the region and the world and lauded Iranˈs significant role in enhancing security and solving problems in the Middle East. The Spanish official further stressed that threats posed to the entire world by such attitudes are real source of concern for the European Union. Amir Abdollahian said Tehran has always been relying on the democratic principles of respecting public votes and opinion in dealing with regional developments. Stressing the importance of supporting political trends which work to undermine extremist attitudes and terrorist movements, he said the Iraqi nationˈs political achievements gained after years of rule of despotism and occupation should be safeguarded. He noted that such abnormal methods as using terrorist groups to change political systems, elected by public votes, are dangerous and should be halted. The Iranian official further pointed to the Zionist regimeˈs aggressions and brutal massacre in occupied Palestine and called for serious measures by the international community to stop Zionist crimes and restore rights of the oppressed Palestinians. He said the world is now witnessing practice of extremism, terrorism and violence by the Zionist regime. The Spanish official met with a number of Iranian ranking officials including Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani during his stay in Tehran./end
